COURSE INFORMATION
Our race distances explainedThree distances. One legendary night out. From the family-first 6KM Fun Run through to New Zealand’s only 17KM night-time trail race — there’s a Puketapu Night Run for everyone.
6.2KM Fun Run – Ocean Orthodontics
The colour, the lights, the vibe — and now, the bridge.
The 6KM Fun Run is the heart of Puketapu Night Run. It’s where families, mates, kids on their first race, and seasoned runners all line up together — headlamps on, fluro out, smiles wide.
Whether you’re running, walking, jogging with the pram or holding a six-year-old’s hand, this is your event. Short enough to be do-able, long enough to feel like an adventure. And as the sun drops and the trail lights up, you’ll see exactly why the 6KM has become the most popular distance on the night.
New for 2026: the Puketapu Bridge crossing

11KM Puketapu Pacer – Brayden Coldicutt Harcourts
A longer night out – two bridges, one river, penty of fluro
The 11KM Puketapu Pacer is brand new for 2026, and it’s the perfect step up from the 6KM. Whether you’re a social walker, a regular jogger, or chasing a sneaky 10K PB in the dark, the Pacer takes you the long way home.
You’ll start at the back of Redclyffe Transfer Station, head downriver along the southern bank to the Waiohiki Bridge for your first crossing, then swing back up the western side of the Tutaekuri through Lennox Park. By the time you hit the Puketapu Bridge — lit up, glowing, with a few hundred metres to go — you’ll be fizzing. Then it’s a final stretch to the finish at Puketapu School.
Two bridges. One river. One pretty special way to spend a winter Friday night.
What to Expect
- Two bridge crossings — the Waiohiki and the brand-new Puketapu
- A scenic loop along both sides of the Tutaekuri, lit by headlamps and course lighting
- A finish line that feels like a party — burger, juice, and the famous community catch-up at Puketapu School
Pricing
- Students (Year 7-13): $30
- Adults: $45

17KM The Full Loop – Ledlenser
New Zealand’s only 17K night-time trail race. Fly solo, or grab two mates and relay.
This is the big one. The Full Loop is the ultimate Puketapu Night Run experience and — as far as we know — the only 17K night-time trail race in the country. Serious runners, this is your National Champion moment.
You’ll start at Puketapu School, head down the limestone trail along the eastern bank of the Tutaekuri, and make your first bridge crossing at Waiohiki. From there it’s back up-river, through Lennox Park, over the Puketapu Bridge — lit just for you — and a mad dash for the finish back at school.
Prefer to split it with mates? The 3-person relay turns the Loop into a social mission. Corporate teams welcome — and there’s a sponsor mention and event logo bundle in it for you.
What to Expect
- A true 17K trail challenge on Hawke’s Bay limestone, river-side the whole way
- Two bridge crossings and a full loop of the Tutaekuri — the only race that does it
- Solo, relay, or corporate team options — your call
- A finish line that feels like a party — burger, juice, and the famous community catch-up at Puketapu School
